Automatic Shirt Ironing Machine
Siemens has introduced a shirt-ironing machine dubbed the “dressman”. Meant for home-use, this $1200usd machine works by pumping hot air through wet, already-laundered shirts. With 12 pre-programmed settings, the results are excellent. 
At a commercial shirt laundry, a family of two with 1 shirt each per day would run up a bill of about $2200 per year if the rate was $3 per shirt. So the device would pay for itself in ½ year.
On the other hand, you can do the ironing by hand at home. Siemens estimates that it takes 8 minutes to iron a shirt (seems low). See this link for a detailed 11-step 27-minute way to iron good-quality shirts. If you average these 2 estimates to get 15 minutes of ironing per shirt, then 730 shirts per year will take you about 180 hours per year. Now, if you value your free time at about $12 per hour, then the device would also pay for itself in a half-year.
Not a cool gadget, but hey, it’s a gadget.
