Climate Prediction
ClimatePrediction.net is a joint effort by the University of Oxford, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, The Open University, and others, intended to improve the accuracy of climate prediction. The approach is to run hundreds of thousands of simulation models of the earth’s climate, and identify those conditions and parameters that modelled past climate successfully. The group is looking for volunteers willing to participate in this effort by “donating” their spare computer time.
You can download a unique version of the climate model from this link, run it as a background process on your computer and watch as the weather patterns over the globe evolve. The results will be sent back via the internet and used to create better forecasts.
