Samsung LED DLP TV
Samsung is displaying it’s recently announced HL-S5679W LED DLP TV now at CeBIT 2006. The 56-inch 1920 x 1080p 1-chip DLP is the first to replace the color wheel & lamp with an LED light source. The LEDs deliver a better color gamut and a 10000:1 contrast ratio.
The $4,200 TV was declared the best TV at CES 2006 back in January, and will be available in April.

Most importantly, the LED technology means doubling or tripling the lifetime of the TV before a lamp replacement is required. No very subtle fan noise either.

All these points, No Spinning Wheel, Less Heat and fan Noise and an LED that last a long time are EXCELLENT features, but the most important spec that I have only seen in 1 report: The 15,000 times per second that the mirrors change. Now I don’t know if this is 3 or 10 times faster than the Sony SXRD with a 5ms pixel speed, but I believe I may be able to watch a sports game without the blurry or jagged edges on fast moving objects. This test is the most important for me because all HDTV’s look excelent to me when there is no movement.
