Quantum Computer by D-Wave Launches
History of sorts will be made on Feb 13, 2007 in Mountain View CA when D-Wave Systems demonstrates a quantum computer powered by a 16-qubit quantum processor capable of performing 64K calculations at the same time. D-Wave is plannning to show off the system’s capabilities by tackling the complexities involved in solving a 2-SAT wedding seating problem.
While some purists sniff that the D-Wave approach does not result in a ‘true’ quantum computer largely because it doesn’t make use of quantum entanglement, the rest of us just hope that the promised quantum leap in computing power will be put to good use, like in a sick gaming console.

[...] That quantum computer cobbled together & demo’d by D-Wave Systems last month just got a big boost in credibility from an unexpected source. While some/many had suggested that the QC was a fake, it now turns out that NASA’s JPL unit Microdevices Laboratory fabricated the quantum chip on spec from D-Wave. [...]
