The People’s Phone - World’s Cheapest
Spice Telecom launched 3 new mobile phones at Mobile World Congress 2008. The People’s Phone (shown at left) is held out to be the world’s cheapest mobile phone, at under $20. …sort of like the Motorola FONE F3, but with the display removed.
Referring to the market niche & the opportunity for the phone, Spice chairman BK Modi said:
“The People’s Phone is a world first. It will be available to the consumer for under $20, making it accessible to a vast number of people who currently cannot afford the expense of a mobile handset.”
The Braille Phone is the same as the People’s Phone, but with a braille keypad for the blind.
And the Movie Phone (right) incorporates an optical drive that uses proprietary UMD-like disks to hold about 2 and a half hour movies for playback on the 2.8 inch screen. …seems to be the 1st phone with a blue laser optical disk.
