Steve Ballmer on the Fifth Computing Revolution
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer gave the opening speech at CeBIT 2008, which is billed as the world’s largest computer expo.
The theme of Ballmer’ 3008-word keynote speech was the incipient 5th computer revolution underway now, which will utilize expanded processing power, huge amounts of storage, ubiquitous broadband networks, natural UI, and screens everywhere to transform and improve many facets of life including personal empowerment, social interaction as well as global matters such as education, healthcare and climate change. Sounds vague, er general enough to be about right.
So what were the previous 4 rev’s?
And as noted, the current insurgency involves powerful computers with unlimited storage providing access to everything by everyone from anywhere. …can’t wait.
And the next, sixth, computing revolution? Nobody knows, but it’ll probably involve some variation on the theme of the Kurzweil Singularity.
