IBM to Switch to MacBook?
It seems that IBM was testing out some Apple computers in the Oct-Jan08 timeframe to see how folks over at their Research Information Services dept liked them. Specifically, 24 Apple MacBook Pros were loaned to researchers who were asked to use them instead of their ThinkPad-issue notebooks, as much as possible.
The results? … an 86% approval rating and plans to expand the pilot.
…our take: wide-spread adoption of Macs at IBM is unlikely because of their higher unit costs and IBM’s extended cost factoring in their 386,558 employees, not to mention fear of offending Lenovo. Those with a cynical bent might well dismiss the pilot as a Hawthorne Experiment, but that’s unlikely to be the case, as IBM is not known for it’s irony.
